Atlantic City Happenings….

Oh my gosh you all!

I had the perfect opportunity the other night to experience two thought models happening at the same exact time, and how there were two different results.

For those of you who are new to my blog (and for those of you who need a reminder) the thought model was developed by Brooke Castillo from The Life Coach School.

It goes like this:

Circumstance- facts that everyone can agree on, something that is measurable, provable and not debatable.  (The weather, an eventt, something someone says).  These are completely neutral, they are neither good nor bad…until we have a thought about it.

Thought- a sentence in our brain about the circumstance.

Feeling- the emotion that results from having that thought.

Action- the things we do or don’t do because we are having that thought and feeling

Results- the consequences we experience from those actions

Ok, so on to my story:

My husband and I spent a couple of nights in Atlantic City, and our last night there was a bit interesting.

We had been out to dinner at a very nice Italian restaurant where I did not finish my meal so I had a nice doggie bag to take home.

We decided to go sit in the bar, listen to music and have one last drink.  When we got there we stood at a counter and I put the doggie bag down by my feet.

After a bit a security guard came over to us and very loudly and angrily told me that no food was allowed in the bar.  I told him that it was leftovers from dinner and that I wasn’t planning on eating it while we were there.  He said that its not his rule and we either have to get rid of it or leave.

Now mind you, I was a little stunned, and looked at Greg and asked him if he wanted me to take it to the room.  (Now this normally wouldn’t have been a big deal, but only 2 out of 6 elevators were working and the hotel was VERY busy, so it would’ve been a pain in the ass).  He told me that he didn’t really care and I should just throw it away.

I found a trash can and tossed it.

When I got back to our counter he told me he had asked to speak to the manager because he was super pissed off.  I was like, “Dude! Why didn’t you tell me you were going to do that before I threw my food away??!!”

Anyway, I let him talk to the manager and this is where I noticed his model and my model.

He came back to me with what the manager had said and that he was going to buy us two more drinks. And, he said, “You don’t have to drink it if you don’t want to I just wanted to make them pour them.”

I don’t know exactly what he was thinking but I’m guessing is was something regarding ‘getting back’ at them.

He was clearly pissed off, drank from that feeling, clearly was beyond tipsy, slept horribly….and felt like crap the next day.

He didn’t hurt the security guard or the manager in any way, he only hurt himself.

My thought was something like, “Having another drink is not going to ‘solve’ anything.”

Yes, I was mad but I was able to notice the only person who would feel anything from that drink was me…and I would not like the feeling at all.

So, I drank a couple of glasses of water, had a great night’s sleep and woke up feeling great.

The same circumstance, different thoughts, similar feelings, different actions, different results.

I find this to be so interesting!!!

Because of the work that I have with my life coach and as a life coach I was able to recognize how this could all go down for me. I was able to recognize that the only person who’d be affected by drinking that drink was me.  I was able to recognize that I could me mad, but I didn’t have to act on it.    I was able to identify what I wanted my result to be.

I was able to have that result.

As your life coach, this is the type of thing I can help you with.

I can help you identify your thoughts and feeling about a circumstance.

I can help you identify what actions you can take to have the result that you want.

I can help you become aware of what is available to you.

I want to help you become aware of what is available to you.
