🎶I didn’t want to do it, didn’t want to do it…🎶

I did NOT want to go to the gym today.
’I’m too tired.’
’It’s cold out.’
’I don’t feel 100%.’
Yadda, yadda, yadda.
This is what my brain was telling me.

After much yadda yadda, I talked myself into going by deciding to not do the scheduled deadlifts.

I got there…
Did my warm up.
Then started hemming and hawing about the deadlifts.

Ok, I’ll do them but I’ll do them with really light weight. 
First set down.

🤔 I think I can add some more weight.
Second set down.

🤨Well, that wasn’t bad.
Third set down.

Maybe I’ll add a few more pounds.
Why not? 🤷🏼‍♀️

Added a few more pounds.
Now it’s heavier than I’ve done in a looonngg time. Fourth set DONE!

👸 I bet I can do another set!
I failed at this set but I didn’t care!

I was feeling STRONG! 💪
Why did I even consider not going??
This shit is awesome! 😎

This is what I usually do when I don’t want to do something.
I’m human. I’m not always jazzed to do what I’ve planned.
There are times when I’d prefer to skip it or do something different.

But instead of doing that….

I tell myself I don’t have to do it all.  Just do SOMETHING.

I do something…then I feel motivated to do just a bit more.

And then a little bit more.

And then a little bit more.

And then the thing is completely done!
(Disclaimer- this works 90% of the time. I do sometimes feel that skipping the thing or doing less would be more beneficial.)

And….I move on with my day. 🤗

What my brain was doing, by trying to talk me out of going to the gym is perfectly natural.
It’s the motivational triangle that I’ve talked about before.
It was trying to:
Conserve my energy by telling me it was ok to not go.
Avoid me having the pain of doing my workout.
Seek the pleasure of staying home in my comfy clothes.

This is how our brains work!!

However, since I started with life coaching I learned….
That we don’t have to believe the things that we think!!
We can decide to think differently.
And, therefore do differently!

🤯 Mind blown!!!!

This is not something we are taught when we are in school.
This is something that most people don’t know is possible!

But, I know it’s possible because I live it!
