My 55th Birthday….

Wednesday, the 10th was my 55th birthday.

My day started off with a lady bug keeping me company while I was journaling (I think it was my Grandmother coming to say Happy Birthday), then I went to an awesome class at my favorite fitness studio, I came home to these beautiful flowers from Angela (my coach, boss and great friend) and witnessed a gorgeous sunset in the evening.

The 'in between' the flowers and the sunset did not go as planned however.

I have been having knee pain so I asked my doctor (who is my friend) if I could come in Wednesday morning to have it checked out. I asked for Wednesday, not because it was my birthday, lol..but because I am without a car down here and my mom was spending Tuesday night with me, so I knew I could borrow her car. My appointment was for 11:30am and she usually sleeps until 1pm or so (yes, she is a night owl...and I believe it is because of genetics that I have a hard time getting up early. Haha!)

So, I go to my appointment and Kelley (my doctor) has a very concerned look on her face. You see, I was diagnosed with a DVT in that same leg back in 3/23 and she was worried that the sensations I was feeling was possibly another DVT. She really wanted me to go to a radiologist to have it checked out. She could get me an appointment for that day, but the closest one was 45 minutes away. I said, 'Tell them I'm on my way!'

I texted my mom to let her know, texted Greg to let him know what was going on and set off for the drive (I admit I got some McDonald's french fries for the ride. YUM!)

Obviously, we were all nervous about the possible outcome.

As, I was driving there (and munching on my fries ) I decided to leave the radio off and think. At first, I was focusing on the scared feeling but then I decided to focus on other things.

I decided to focus on the things I was grateful for.

These things were:

-My doctor who is an amazing clinician and a great friend.

-I was able to call her on Tuesday and get in on Wednesday (and treated like a VIP).

-Her amazing staff member was able to get me a same day appointment for the tests.

-My mom lent me her car to go to these appointments and was perfectly fine hanging out at my house all day alone. (I'm sure she rather enjoyed it to get away from my father for a bit!)

I was in and out of there very quickly and within 30 minutes of leaving my doctor called me to tell me that there was no new DVT. (Phew!) What I was experiencing was inflammation of and water around my knee and that I should see a knee specialist.

Cool….annoying, but I can handle it!

I wrote about this today because it would have been VERY easy to focus on what ‘could’ be and get myself all scared and worked up. I could have the let the motivational triad...seek pleasure, avoid pain and conserve energy take over my mind.

There have been so many times in my past when I focused on what could be before having all of the information and totally freaked myself out. I'd literally make myself sick sometimes! No more!

One of the main job I have as a Life Coach is to show my clients their mind.
Show them how they are thinking about things and how it creates their outcome.

Because I have done this work and continue to teach it to others, I knew that I had a choice.
That I didn't have to do let my mind drive me to worry, worry, worry, obsess, obsess, obsess.
I knew I could choose how and what I wanted to think until I had more information.

And, I'm so glad that I did!!

I am the Get Real coach for women, what you see is what you get.

I can teach you how to recognize how your thoughts and feelings create YOUR outcome.
This is an amazing skill to have.
