Sunrise struggles…
This week I am going to talk about my friend/coach/boss’s 30 day sunrise challenge. Angela decided to celebrate 6 years of being alcohol free by doing 30 days of sober sunrises. Which is so awesome. Congrats Angela!!!
When she told me about it I had a little nudge saying…’That sounds like it could be fun.’ While also thinking, ‘But I don’t like to get up early. Why would I think about doing it?’ (Those of you who know me well can stop laughing now! LOL!)
We don’t like to leave questions unanswered, so I thought about it. Why would I think about doing it?
Because sunrises are pretty.
Because it’ll give me more time in my day.
Because I might learn something about myself.
Because it’s a challenge and I like to challenge myself.
So, I accepted the challenge.
Today is day 21 of the challenge.
Have I seen all 21 sunrises?
Nope!
Last week was not great.
It was rather crappy in the mornings and I wasn’t feeling super jazzed about the challenge.
1 day I forgot to set my alarm, 1 day I hit snooze too many times and 2 days I said “Fuck it, I’m not getting up.”
But, this week…I am back at it.
And it is still challenging for me.
It’s a struggle.
Why did I decide to keep doing it?
Keep trying?
Because I said I would.
Because I accepted the challenge and I was going to complete it.
This challenge…life…starting a new job, starting a new fitness routine, etc is not a success only journey. It’s not perfect. It’s not meant to be. As humans we are supposed to struggle.
If we never struggled or fucked up we would never learn. We would never grow.
Yes, struggling is uncomfortable.
We don’t like the feeling.
We want to go back to our old ways and hide.
BUT..
Staying where we are can be uncomfortable as well.
Going back to our ‘old way’ and behaving in ways we don’t like is uncomfortable.
I like to say that either way we are going to be uncomfortable.
And, we get to choose which uncomfortable feeling we want to feel.
Do we want to at least try, be imperfect along the way and learn from our mistakes,
Or
Do we want to throw our hands up in the air and say, “Nope. That’s too hard. I’m good.”?
I know which I choose every time.
I choose to try.
I choose to stumble.
I choose to get my hands dirty.
I choose to accept that I am human and am open to learning along the way.
What do you choose?
Think about it.
