You can make changes…

I just got home from an amazing time away.

I was reflecting on it yesterday while I was waiting for my flight and this is what I wrote and posted for another FB page that I belong to and work in.

“I am currently in the SLC airport waiting for my flight home after an amazing 12 days away (feels like longer, but in a good way).

I feel so blessed that I was able to see Alex and Nick, with a trip to Vegas with Greg in between.

I am always sad when I have to say goodbye to my boys, but this time was easier.

Nick is working full time, has a great girlfriend and group of friends and is on his way to becoming financially independent. We put a spreadsheet together with all of his expenses and income and have set on the schedule to talk at the end of every month to go over it. This is a big step for both of us! He’s been up and down with his employment since he left college, and honestly, Greg and I haven’t pushed him enough to become gainfully employed and start moving towards independence. I finally decided that enough was enough and he and I have been having conservations about it since the new year. I pulled back some of his “freedoms”, like being able to use one of our credit cards for everything and he has adjusted, and now it is time for more. We have a plan for him and he is on board and excited to work towards being financially independent. I’m proud of him!

Alex is almost one year clean!! Woo hoo!! He is also thriving in the aftercare facility that he is in. He has made friends, has been working part time and is looking towards his future. He leaves tomorrow for training at a youth wilderness facility to become a guide. He is so excited to share his love of the outdoors with the young people and to share his experiences and struggles with drug abuse and his mental health. It is SO amazing to see him so excited about something. I am super proud of him as well.

So, yes, I am sad to be leaving them…my visits are never long enough. But, I am leaving with my heart full of love and pride, not grief and worry.

This has been a long time coming, and obviously I know they will still have struggles…cest la vie…but I know we can all handle it.

I can 100% say that if I hadn’t done this work with Angela Mascenik, I would not be here and my family would not be here. I wouldn’t have been able to mentally and physically endure everything that we have gone through as a family. I know this because in the past I had drowned out everything by drinking. I put my head in the sand like an ostrich and then panicked and tried to ‘fix’ everything when I ‘came to’.

People can change! You can change! You do not have to continue to do things that you know are hurting you.

Do the work, do the work, do the work.

It’s a real pain in the ass at times, and can feel rather redundant…but that’s ok.

Do it anyway!!”

I felt this was important to put here because the tools I learned from my life coach has helped me to totally change my life, and I know I can teach you the tools to change yours.

This work rolls into every aspect of your life if you let it.
