I’ve still got IT!!! LOL!

A construction worker asked me for my phone number the other day!

Woo Hoo!!

I’ve still got it! LOL!

I was walking around my neighborhood, and as I was coming to a corner, I stopped for a moment because the workers were bringing stuff from the street into the work site.

A young man came out of the work site and smiled at me, and kind of waved me forward.

I smiled at him and said, “Thank you so much.”

He smiled back and told me to have a good day.

He was walking towards the corner behind me, and I heard him say something, but I missed it, so I turned around and asked him what he said.

He said, “I asked if I could have your phone number.”

I smiled and said, “Oh, sir! I am married and have been for 27 years! But thank you!”

He said, “Oh wow, that’s cool,” and smiled at me.

As I was walking away, I told him that he had made my day…and then I corrected myself and told him he had made my year!

I’m not going to lie; I was now walking with more skip in my step!
I felt really good!

As I was walking, I pondered the conversation and thought about the women that would have been annoyed or pissed about it.
- Those women would have thought that he had done something wrong.
- They most likely would have been pissed off.
- They wouldn’t have had the extra skip in their step that I was experiencing.

And that is their choice.

Wait…what?

You may be thinking, “How is it their choice Steph? He either asked her for her number or he didn’t. She didn’t have a choice.”

That is not true, my friends.

We all have more choices than many of us realize!

The choice in this scenario is how we CHOOSE to feel about what he said.

I chose to think a thought like, “Oh, isn’t that sweet!”

This thought made me feel very flattered and, which led me to pleasant actions like smiling, saying Hello to other people, walking with more skip in my step, telling my husband/friends/family member about it (Oh yes, I did!! Dude! I was stoked! LOL!), etc.

I was acting “sweet” to myself (and the people around me) because I thought that interaction (aka circumstance) had been sweet.

I felt great!

If I had chosen to think something like, “Damn, that was disrespectful!”

I most likely would have felt pissed off, and I know how I act when I am pissed off. I would’ve been clenching my teeth, grumbling under my breath, texting my husband and others about what this guy had the nerve to do..and more.

Basically, I would have been “disrespecting” myself by taking a bunch of actions that didn’t make me feel good!

All because of MY thought, not HIS words.

Same scenario (aka circumstance)
- Different thoughts
- Different feelings
- Different actions
- Different results

He could’ve asked 50 women for their phone numbers that day, and there probably would have been 50 different results.

All because those women would have had different thoughts, feelings, and actions.

I am not saying there is a “right” way and a “wrong” way.

If I had chosen that second thought, I wouldn’t have done something “wrong,” but I certainly wouldn’t have felt good.

I’m using this story to brag.
Well, maybe just a little bit! LOL!

I am using it to reiterate this AWESOME concept I learned through life coaching.

Outside circumstances (things people say, events, the weather, etc.) cannot make us feel and do things.
They are 100% neutral!
It’s our THOUGHTS about those outside circumstances that make us feel, take action or inaction…and therefore give us the results we have in our lives.

I know, I know, I know!

It’s mind-blowing!

This was a very new concept to me, and it may be to you as well.

I CAN help teach you this concept!

I CAN help you see how your thoughts are creating the results you have in your life!
